Prof Christian Ewald

Christian studies optimal management policies for fisheries and aquaculture in the presence of uncertainty and complex dynamic interactions. In particular he focuses on multi-species models as well as risk-management tools for fisheries and policy makers that can alleviate some of the economic, financial and environmental risks. For example, Prof. Ewald is currently investigating how Salmon futures, financial contracts linked to the expected future price of freshly farmed salmon traded in Norway and quoted on the NASDAQ, can help Scottish salmon farmers to manage their production risk more efficiently. Prof. Ewald also looks at more innovative derivatives, that can help to manage wild catch fisheries in a more efficient and sustainable way.
