Dr. Vernon Phoenix’s research group operate a cross the Technology and Environment themes and focus on developing solutions for soil and groundwater contamination.  He is developing (bio)technologies for control of subsurface contaminants, either via direct remediation of the contaminant or by plugging ground water transport pathways to prevent contaminant migration. He is applying this to nuclear waste and nanoparticle pollutants.  In addition he is developing better contaminant transport models, using data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) which enable us to look inside rocks and sediments to see the movement of contaminants within.
